Planet Hairball ยท last updated 9 October 2026
Planet Hairball is a game for everyone, children included, so it keeps as little as it can. There are no ads, no tracking and no accounts. We never ask for your name, email, age or where you live, and nothing you type is ever shown to other players.
What's kept on your device
Your game save (your cat, treats, things you've bought and your progress) and your sound and motion settings are kept in your browser's storage, so the game works offline.
What's kept on our server
- A copy of your save, so your cat isn't lost if your browser clears its storage, and so your linked devices share one cat. Your cat's name is the made-up name the game picks for you (like "Sleepy Muffin"), so there's nothing to type.
- A cookie with a random id (
cc_player), so the server knows which save is yours. It isn't used for anything else and is never shared. - What other players can see, if you use leaderboards or friends: a made-up name the game picks for you (like "Sleepy Muffin"), your cat's look for its picture, your best scores, your friend code, and when you last played (for your friends only).
- Achievements: whether you've ever finished a week first, in the top 3 or in the top 10 of a leaderboard, so the game can give you those achievements. Only you see it.
- Friends: who you're friends with, requests, blocks, gifts, challenges and game invites.
- Ways to get your cat back, if you set them up: for a recovery code, only a scrambled version of it (so even we can't read your code); for a passkey, its public key (the secret part never leaves your device).
- Gifts from us: which of our ๐ฌ messages' gifts of treats you've collected, so each cat gets each gift once.
What isn't kept
- No chat and no typing to other players: the only way to say anything in a game together is a set of emotes.
- No analytics companies, ad networks or other companies' scripts. Everything on this site comes from this site.
- We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Other things we see
- Your internet address is used for a short while to stop anyone flooding the server (for example, too many new players from one address in an hour). It's kept in memory, not saved.
- Error reports: if the game hits a bug, it tells the server what broke, where in the game's code, and the kind of device (like "iPhone Safari"). Nothing about you.
- Play counts: the game counts how often each game is played (rounds, minutes), each room and place is visited, things are bought and treats are earned and spent, and the kinds of device playing, and sends the counts now and then. The server only adds them to each day's totals (like "Mouse Hunt: 400 rounds, 90 players today") and keeps those for about 13 months, to see what players enjoy and what needs work. They're never stored with your id, your cat or your address, so they can't say who played what. Nothing is counted while you play offline.
- Problem reports: if you use ๐ Report a problem in โ๏ธ Settings, we keep what you typed, the kind of device, the game's version, where you were in the game and any recent errors. Only the people who make the game read it, never other players. It isn't linked to your cat or your id, so we can't reply, and it can't be deleted with your cat: please leave out your name, email and anything private.
- The game runs on servers from Fly.io in the United States, whose systems keep short-lived request logs.
Deleting your data
Open โ๏ธ Settings in the game and tap ๐๏ธ Delete my cat and data. Everything the server keeps about you goes at once (your recovery code and passkeys too), and the game starts afresh on that device. A device you linked keeps its own copy until you delete it there too. Clearing your browser's data for this site deletes the copy on your device.
Parents
Children can play without giving any personal information, and can't message or be messaged by other players. Everyone sees made-up names, never anything typed by another player.
When a new player starts, the game asks the year they were born (and the month, if it could make them under 13). It keeps only the month a player under 13 turns 13, never the birthday, and nothing at all for older players. Until that month, a problem report is a choice of buttons instead of typed words. (Nobody types a name for their cat: every cat has the made-up name the game picks.) Those limits lift by themselves when they turn 13, and nothing they've played is lost.
The game has no ads. If that ever changes, this page will say so first, and children under 13 won't be shown ads that track them.
If you'd like us to delete a child's data, correct their age, or have any question, write to us at tinytinygamesllc@gmail.com.
The rules for playing (treats, fair play, leaderboards) are in the terms.
Changes
If the game ever starts keeping something new (or shows ads), this page will say so first, with a new date at the top.
